Social Operations Vehicle - Demonstrator

Defender 110: LHD 3.5Ltr V8 (1993)

One of three prototype demonstrators of a Defender military SOV (Special Operations Vehicle). Being a demonstrator, this is one of our few military Rovers that do not bear a UK military registration plate. As it was never used in anger, we have resisted loading the vehicle up with mission specific paraphernalia. This provides the opportunity to better see the vehicle in its own right.

This Defender was certainly designed to throw a punch. The prominent roll bar arrangement supports a 360 degree mighty 50mm turret machine gun. Additionally GPMGs are mounted fore and aft on swinging boom gun mounts. There is then the ammunition storage commensurate with all this fire power.

This was not designed for life on tarmac. The SOV's motive power was served by a 3.5 Ltr V8 engine and 5 speed manual box. It carries the, by now, obligatory winch with further recovery gear wrapped around the front bumper. Sand ladders are strapped to a rear wing. Two spare wheels are also carried to keep things moving!

This vehicle was demonstrated to US special forces and at Arms Shows in the Middle East. A very well sorted and a purposeful appearance.
