A Classic Range Rover with a secret past

Range Rover: Classic - Vogue (1996)

The Heritage Certificate on file confirms this Classic Range Rover was delivered to the Ministry of Defence, Liverpool on 19 October 1995. before undergoing 'customisation' for its life undercover. This Command control car then entered service with 22 SAS Squadron, Hereford, sporting its 'civil' registration N807 VEP. It is presented in its original metalic Avalon blue paintwork but we have chosen to leave its modest battle scars which reflect demanding SAS usage.

The original safety roll cage was fitted under contract to Special Forces and remains installed. Extra holes in dashboard carried additional switch gear for sirens, lights etc which annoyingly were removed before leaving service - most intriguing is the headlamps selector switch which has survived and is labelled "Normal/Infrared". Perfect for a night ride! We have also traced the extended wiring loom for communication systems including split wiring system to serve a rear gun compartment.

'VEP' is equipped for speed with a 3.9 litre injected petrol engine and an automatic gearbox. However the original air suspension was replaced with coil springs at some point. We assume to provide improved stability when fully loaded. We are aware of stories that such Range Rovers had a tendency of ending up on their side when driven hard in Northern Ireland while loaded up with four burley chaps and a heavy weapons load. The car still drives very well today however it resolutely keeps stories of its past life firmly to itself.
