O dros y ffin

We are currently working on this 1963 Series IIA canvas topped pick-up that is likely to join our collection in 2021. We stumbled across it and were struck by the fact that it had been totally unmolested, save the thumps and bumps of a hard life working in the Valleys for one of South Wales’ better known Civil Engineering family businesses. There is even graffiti on the cab headlining referring to contract sites on which it worked.

Although many of our exhibits are remarkable adaptations built off the famous Land Rover Chassis, one needs to be reminded that the base Land Rover was, for decades, the ‘go to’ light utility vehicle in its own right. In this very genuine vehicle we see an opportunity to illustrate exactly that.

We have examples of Landy’s that have lived and worked from as far afield as Mainland Europe, Africa, Asia and Australasia. But until now, nothing from just over the border in Wales. So that will also be another box ticked by this addition when it joins the collection.

This is a totally regular Series IIA 109″ LWB pickup. Of its time, the workhorse of a nation. Whilst we need to get the pick-up running smoothly and tidy up its appearance, we certainly do not intend to detract from the patina of this classic vehicle which speaks to its history. That will then just leave the language barrier to overcome.

So, to our newest acquisition; “croeso i’ch cartref newydd”.
